A podcast is an audio file that can be listened to on your computer or MP3 player.
(Sometimes the term podcast refers to a video file, although video podcast is often used in this context.)

Book: Salmon G and Edirisingha P (2008) Podcasting for Learning in Universities (in library), with comprehensive website Podcasting for Learning in Universities (the practical guide by the same authors How to Create Podcasts for Education is on order).
The NDLR is a good source of podcasts, as are iTunes and RTE.

Software
Audacity is free, open source software for recording and editing sounds.
